AFRONA FAQ'S

Afrona

What is the Afrona?

The Afrona is a Patent-Pending hat designed to keep your curls and volume intact.

How do I use the Afrona?

  1. Position the Afrona so that the label is on the bottom and the drawstrings are on top.
  2. Place the Afrona over your head and down until it sits on your neck
  3. Lift the Afrona directly up ensuring that all of your hair is inside
  4. Close the drawstring at the end of the Afrona.

I don't have curly hair. Will the Afrona work for me?

Yes! The Afrona helps maintain all types and styles intact, frizz free, healthy and protected. The only difference is that the Afrona stands up with curly hair. If you like to wear your hair more than one way (straightened, braided, etc.) the Afrona is the all in one hair protector.

How is the Afrona different from a bonnet or headwrap?

The Afrona is different from a bonnet because

  • It does not flatten your hair
  • It has a stylish design meant to be worn out
  • It can be worn more than 5 different ways
  • It has 2 open ends instead of 1 (This design keeps your hair style intact)

The Afrona is different from a head-wrap because

  • It is satin-lined
  • It goes on and comes off in seconds
  • It has an elastic to stay in place even while you are sleeping
  • You can change your style throughout the day without much effort

Sizing

Why do the Afronas come in different sizes?

In order for the Afrona to keep your curls intact, it must stand up when it is worn. Differences in hair type, volume and length call for different sizes in order to provide your hair with full coverage and ensure that the Afrona stands up and looks good when it is worn.

*Sizes only differ in length not width* The circumference of all Afronas are 20.5"

How do I determine my Afrona size?

By using our size chart. Find it here.

My Afrona is too WIDE and keeps slipping down. What should I do?

Afrona sizes only change in length and not width. Therefore, if you were to change sizes, the width wouldn't change.

Here's what you can do

  1. Flip the Afrona upside down so that the drawstrings are at your forehead and tighten it to your comfort level.
  2. Roll in the Afrona at the elastic part that sits on your forehead. (like rolling up a sleeve) This makes the circumference more narrow to fit tighter.
  3. Pin the Afrona so that it fits tighter

My Afrona is too TIGHT on me. What should I do?

Afrona sizes only change in length and not width. Therefore, if you were to change sizes, the width wouldn't change.

  1. Wet or wash the Afrona and lightly tug at the elastic and let it air dry. Wetting it helps loosen the elastic.
  2. Flip the Afrona upside down so that the drawstrings are at your forehead and tighten it to your comfort level.

I got a hair cut and my Afrona no longer stands up. What should I do?

There are 2 things you can do

1. Roll-in the Afrona at the elastic (like rolling up a sleeve) Keep folding it until the drawstring end of the Afrona sits at the ends of your hair.

2. Use your current Afrona as a headband, Open Crown, scarf and Beanie and purchase a new Afrona with a better fit HERE

Will my hair outgrow my Afrona?

It is possible but unlikely that you will outgrow your Afrona, with the exception of  purchasing an Afrona when your hair is at chin/neck length. This is because as your curly hair grows its volume typically remains the same. Therefore, you can enjoy your Afrona for many years to come.

Will the elastic stretch over time?

The elastic does stretch slightly over time adjusting to your comfort. Washing it speeds up this process.

Afrona Care

Can I use the Afrona for oil-treatments?

It is not recommended that you use the Afrona for oil treatments. The oil can bleed through the satin and onto the exterior fabric, staining the Afrona and anything else you lay on. If you do add oil to your hair, while wearing the Afrona, do so in a very small amount.

I put my Afrona in the washer and dryer. Is my Afrona doomed?

It is recommended that you wash your Afrona in the gentle cycle and to line dry. Putting your Afrona in the dryer can cause the exterior fabric to shrink making the it disproportionate to the lining. Also, your Afrona will last longer when you line dry it.
